After that we walked slowly with the gun pointed at the hostage’s head, being given the possibility to execute it at any time. The system used is practically the same as Gears of War, we have to reach the edge of the victim and press the indicated button. Taking hostages is another skill that can sometimes be useful. This possibility of destroying things comes in handy when enemies hide behind them. In the exchange of fire between the police and the two fugitives, the red partitions become worn and end up being destroyed. A good example of this can be seen in the restaurant when starting the exclusive demo on Xbox Live. I noticed that there is a bet in environments with destructiveness. In a few moments the game may take on the perspective of a surveillance camera showing everything in black and white and with a very low resolution. This can create small nausea in some people. When Lynch starts to run the camera shakes from side to side giving the feeling that a cameraman is running after him. The camera angles look a lot like those seen in documentaries. I really liked the visual aspect that I saw, it gives something different to the game compared to other titles of the genre.
What IO Interactive did was apply a kind of filter that gives a “dirty” look and that overloads the lights. There will be those who will like the style and there will be those who don’t. The graphic component will share opinions. A big bet in gray tones and very bright lights. This image demonstrates the graphics of the game. In open environments it becomes more dangerous, enemies advance from object to object and try to flank them. The enemies’ behaviors are realistic, they do not stand still waiting to be hit, they hide behind objects and peek quickly giving the player a few seconds to kill them. The main factor behind the difficulty seems to me to be AI. Above this difficulty there are two more levels of difficulty that promise to be a good challenge. Even in normal difficulty, Kane and Lynch 2 is more difficult than most games today. Losing in the first contact with the game is normal, especially if your way of playing is to kill. The zones of action are intense, proving that it is necessary to proceed with caution and that the covering system exists to be used. Of course, afterwards Kane and Lynch come in with shotguns in their hands and the helpless workers nestle in an attempt to survive the ongoing shooting. One of the levels takes place inside a factory, stopping for a while we can see the operators on the sewing machines doing their job. Seeing the city’s inhabitants carry out their daily lives gives life and helps to recreate the city. The atmosphere of the city is very well created and is very immersive. The scenario is different from the first Kane and Lynch, this time we are taken to the streets of Shanghai. Because of that, when I started playing Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days I was pleased with what I saw, the initial cinematics demonstrated well the level of brutality that the game can achieve. It is simply something I like, and as the saying goes, “tastes are not discussed”. For some reason I always liked violent games, although I never quite understood the reason for that.
